Here’s a collection of our favorite fall events in the Netherlands to make your autumn unforgettable. 

1 Museumnacht Den Haag (Museum Night) 

12 October 
Museumnacht Den Haag sees 33 cultural institutions open their doors from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m., offering a unique nocturnal cultural experience with just one ticket. Visitors can enjoy special events like workshops, performances, and guided tours. It's a fantastic way to explore the city's rich artistic heritage in a festive nighttime atmosphere. 

2 Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE)  

16-20 October 
Amsterdam Dance Event is one of the world's most famous electronic music events and festivals. Over five days, the city becomes a hub for DJs, producers, and music fans from around the globe. With hundreds of events scattered across the city’s iconic venues, clubs, and even boats, ADE offers workshops, and parties that last all night long. 

3 Bockbier Festival, Utrecht 

18-20 October 
Embrace the cozy vibes of autumn at the Bockbier Festival Utrecht, a delightful celebration dedicated to the rich and robust flavors of bock beer. Held annually in October, this festival invites beer enthusiasts to indulge in a wide array of bock beers offered by local and regional breweries. Set against the charming backdrop of Utrecht's historic city center, the festival creates a warm atmosphere perfect for savoring this seasonal brew. The event features live music performances, adding to the festive spirit, and food stalls offering Dutch snacks like bitterballen and cheese platters that pair perfectly with the malty beers.

4 De Grote Schijn (‘The Great Shine’), Rotterdam 

24 October - 10 November 
Experience the enchantment of autumn nights at De Grote Schijn, a mesmerizing light and sound spectacle that transforms Rotterdam’s Kralingse Bos into a magical wonderland. As darkness falls, take a captivating evening stroll through illuminated forests where trees come alive with shimmering lights, and pathways are bathed in ethereal glows. Interactive installations and special effects harmoniously blend technology with the natural environment, creating an immersive experience. 5 GLOW Light Art Festival, Eindhoven  

9-16 November 
GLOW Eindhoven is a spectacular light art festival that illuminates the city with light installations and sculptures created by artists from around the world. The event transforms Eindhoven into a luminous open-air museum, offering a magical experience as you walk through the glow-in-the-dark pathways and interactive exhibits. This year’s theme, "The Stream," demonstrates how natural forces guide how we move and evolve through stunning light art. 

6 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 

14-24 November 
IDFA is the world's largest documentary film festival, showcasing a diverse selection of over 300 documentaries. Film enthusiasts can attend screenings, and discussions, engaging with filmmakers and exploring a wide range of compelling topics and narratives from around the globe. 
Bonus tip: If you are interested in art as well, the Amsterdam Art Weekend is happening 23-25 November, so you can combine the two.

+1 Enjoy the Nature, Utrechtse Heuvelrug 

While not an event per se, autumn is the perfect time to explore the Netherlands' natural beauty. Visit the Hoge Veluwe National Park or the forests of Utrechtse Heuvelrug to witness stunning fall landscapes.
